Incorrect. Apps generally don't know the difference between kernel versions and even the "old" 5.4 focal kernel is still supported with security updates (last one was 6 days ago): https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux > I expect that in the future the nouveau driver will become the only one anyway and the Nvidia drivers will be integrated in it. I don't expect that. I would expect Nvidia to maintain the 'nvidia' kernel driver independently from the 'nouveau' driver that they did not write themselves. I would also not expect Nvidia to start supporting older GPUs that they already consider retired today. You might wait for the community to improve 'nouveau' with the newly released data but I would not hold my breath since many Nvidia GPUs have been waiting years already. So I expect your only realistic option is to install the original Ubuntu 20.04 (https://old- releases.ubuntu.com/releases/20.04/ubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso) which should keep you on kernel 5.4 (with security updates) and with a working nvidia-340 driver. This bug remains open waiting for nouveau fixes, but they might never come. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-hwe-5.15 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1983108 Title: [nouveau] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for ...
