I'm quite new to linux debugging so I'm unsure how best to describe it, or if it even is a problem with the 5.18.10 kernel (it does not happen on 5.15 or 5.4 from testing). .mp3 and .mp4 can be played straight from the Nemo file manager, but upon downloading a .webm file opening Nemo at all causes the same issue as opening Rhythmbox and Clementine preventing me from accessing any files on the machine. Using the 5.18.10 kernel without the codecs does not cause those crashes, and both Rhythmbox and Nemo work perfectly so far without them.
