I thought this problem had solved itself somehow since I could resume
from suspend but around 2 weeks ago, the problem resurfaced again.

About your solutions:
Here's the thing, I can't see the login screen post resume. The whole screen is
blank. There's no way to send an input to the computer (e.g., CAPS Lock button
doesn't work, else that capslock light would blink when the button is pressed).

So there's no way to select "Ubuntu on Wayland" on the login screen.
Sorry!

More info:
In Softwares and Updates > Additional Drivers, I can see that my system is
using "NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-470 (proprietary, tested)"
for my NVIDIA GeForce MX130. But when I try to open NVIDIA XServer settings, it
shows a small window with nothing in it. Maybe the driver isn't working
properly (which is why I am getting a decent battery life ;P)? Something to do
with Secure Boot and MOK?

Title:
Ubuntu 20.04 shows blank upon resuming from resume. Requires hard
shutdown using the h/w power button

Status in linux-hwe-5.13 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After installing Ubuntu 20.04 on my laptop, if the laptop suspends due
to closing the lid or not using the laptop for some time and once I
press any key to resume from the suspend, the laptop shows a blank
screen and is unresponsive to any button presses.

This problem happens sometimes though. There have been times that I
resume from suspend successfully. But more often it will fail to
resume from suspend completely and I will need to use the hardware
power button to hard shutdown and restart.
