When it happens, I notice some spam in dmesg. I notice that I am still connected to the wireless access point but no data seems to pass through. I cannot ping or resolve DNS. I make sure power management is off on the wifi device. This is for Ubuntu 12.04, 3.2.0-36-generic kernel, all packages up-to- date as of 1/22/2013. This hardware is a Dell XPS L702X with an Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wifi device.
