I could see from the logs the amdgpu kernel model was not loaded. Reverting back to the 5.11.0-16 kernel worked as expected. The amdgpu module is blacklisted by default and auto loaded in the boot process. If I disable the black listing of the module and add it explicitly to /etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf. The amdgpu module is loaded successfully and X starts as expected with the 5.11.0-17 kernel. Is there a regression in the 5.11.0-17 kernel that would cause this issue or another package missing from the update for example a newer linux-firmware? I am running a recent graphics card so maybe that could be part of the issue: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 21.04 Release: 21.04 apt-cache policy inux-modules-extra-5.11.0-17-generic linux-image-5.11.0-17-generic linux-headers-5.11.0-17 linux-headers-5.11.0-17-generic linux-modules-5.11.0-17-generic linux-modules-extra-5.11.0-17-generic: Installed: 5.11.0-17.18 Candidate: 5.11.0-17.18 Version table: *** 5.11.0-17.18 500 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-image-5.11.0-17-generic: Installed: 5.11.0-17.18 Candidate: 5.11.0-17.18 Version table: *** 5.11.0-17.18 500 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-headers-5.11.0-17: Installed: 5.11.0-17.18 Candidate: 5.11.0-17.18 Version table: *** 5.11.0-17.18 500 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main i386 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-headers-5.11.0-17-generic: Installed: 5.11.0-17.18 Candidate: 5.11.0-17.18 Version table: *** 5.11.0-17.18 500 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status linux-modules-5.11.0-17-generic: Installed: 5.11.0-17.18 Candidate: 5.11.0-17.18 Version table: *** 5.11.0-17.18 500 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1928355/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
