Sorry I forgot to mention that... After the boot where the screen resolution was messed up, I tried:
1. The recovery boot (nothing improved) 2. Installing the NVidia driver manually (terminated with error, no improvement) 3. Apt purge (resolution back to 1920 x 1080, seemingly ok) So just to be completely clear, the failed install of the NVidia driver was an attempt to repair the problem that had already happened. Again sorry for the confusion! When I ran Additional Drivers, the screen indicated that I had manually installed graphics drivers and I could not select the official and tested NVidia drivers. I am assuming these "manually" installed drivers were a part of a system update as I did nothing to install any drivers on my own. I found a suggestion to run "apt purge nvdia-\*", which I did. When I rebooted, I was able to select the "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-460 (proprietary, tested), and my screen resolution and general behaviour seemed fine from that point on. In case it doesn't come through in the uploaded files, here are the lines from /var/log/dpkg.log relating to my purge: 2021-04-10 20:28:09 startup packages purge 2021-04-10 20:28:09 purge nvidia-compute-utils-460:amd64 460.67-0ubuntu1 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status config-files nvidia-compute-utils-460:amd64 460.67-0ubuntu1 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status not-installed nvidia-compute-utils-460:amd64 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 purge nvidia-prime:all 0.8.16.1 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status config-files nvidia-prime:all 0.8.16.1 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status not-installed nvidia-prime:all <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 purge nvidia-kernel-common-460:amd64 460.67-0ubuntu1 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status config-files nvidia-kernel-common-460:amd64 460.67-0ubuntu1 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status triggers-pending initramfs-tools:all 0.139ubuntu3 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status not-installed nvidia-kernel-common-460:amd64 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 purge linux-modules-nvidia-460-5.11.0-13-generic:amd64 5.11.0-13.14+2 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:09 status config-files linux-modules-nvidia-460-5.11.0-13-generic:amd64 5.11.0-13.14+2 2021-04-10 20:28:10 status not-installed linux-modules-nvidia-460-5.11.0-13-generic:amd64 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:10 purge nvidia-settings:amd64 460.56-0ubuntu2 <none> 2021-04-10 20:28:10 status config-files nvidia-settings:amd64 460.56-0ubuntu2 2021-04-10 20:28:10 status not-installed nvidia-settings:amd64 <none> Note the time shown is Vancouver/Canada Pacific Daylight.
