*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1919342 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1919342
Please advise which logs are appropriate. I can boot into one of the "bad" kernels and collect standard logs etc. while it is running but *before* I try touching the screen with the stylus. This would give standard info but not necessarily pinpoint the issue. What I would really like to know is this: if I replicate the problem (i.e. freeze the OS), will this write appropriate diagnostic info to some log file which is then still available after a hard reboot? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1921066 Title: thinkpad yoga X1 3rd gen stylus freezes OS 20.04 LTS certain kernels Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I am running 20.04.1 LTS on a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen. After recent routine kernel updates, touching the screen with the stylus freezes the whole operating system. It is not associated with a single application or package (I guess it is the kernel package, see below). I am running the default ubuntu desktop environment. I recently switched from fedora 33 on this same machine, and this problem occurred with it too. I "solved" it by simply loading an earlier kernel, and trying each updated kernel version until the problem did not occur. The problem occurs with the following ubuntu kernels: 5.8.0-45-generic 5.8.0-48-generic It does *not* occur with 5.8.0-44-generic Please advise what other debugging info I can supply. I am sorry I did not take note of the kernel versions that did or did not experience the problem in fedora, although I note that fedora 33 also seems to be using the same 5.8 series.
