There are customers and users of linux-kvm that want/need to use NFS version 4. [Test Case] $ modinfo nfsv4 modinfo: ERROR: Module nfsv4 not found. [Where problems could occur] It's a new module and loading it could crash a system (if the module is buggy). In addition, the kernel now provides its own DNS resolver for CIFS, NFS and AFS (and potentially others) and those lookups might fail if that particular code is broken.
