Bug description:
My recent upgrade to Focal (20.04) using 5.4.0-28 version of the
kernel kills wifi. Wifi was working properly under 19.10 (using
5.3.0-68). The issue persists using both rtw88 and rtwpci (which work
under 19.10). 20.04 live CD has the same issue. I also tried
installing 20.10 and found the same issue. On startup wireless works
for a little while, allowing to see and connect to networks, but stops
working shortly thereafter (mere seconds).
Further, just trying the 20.04 live CD appears to mess the wireless
card when returning to 19.10 (which is installed on a proper drive in
my laptop). Needed to reinstall the kernel (same version:
5.3.0-51-generic) in 19.10 to get it working again. I have no idea
what this means.
I have followed several of the suggestions in:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1838133 (which
seems to be the same bug for a previous kernel version, so may be this
is a reversion?), to no avail.
My wireless adapter is an RTL8822BE which shows up in lspci and lshw
-C network, although under 5.4.0-28 lshw shows it as disabled (as I
said, it appears to work for a few seconds after startup). dsmeg shows
some issues with changing the power mode of the device although I am
too much of a noob to understand it.
In order to post this I rolled back to 19.10, so I no longer have
access to a machine experiencing this issue (and cannot post the
logs), but can reboot on the live CD and obtain them if there is any
useful debugging to be done.
