You have been subscribed to a public bug: Unclear to me if the issue is with the linux kernel, the intel graphics driver or what. In any case, an haswell laptop recently updated from 20.04 to 20.10 now hangs on boot unless you explicitly set GFX_PAYLOAD_LINUX=text in the grub configuration.
The hang is just before starting X and sddm (distro is actually kubuntu). When hanging, the system remains responsive to SysRq+B, hence only the video subsystem appears to go dead. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment rls-gg-incoming -- Ubuntu 20.10 needs GFX_PAYLOAD_LINUX=text to boot on haswell laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901583 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
