It definitively makes sense to submit the 1.2.2 testing to the Ubuntu packagers. Do I need to file a bug against Groovy same issue or is the 1.2.2 is automatically included in Groovy too? I'll check more in deep the crackles issue and if it's the case I'll file new bug.
