Resetting pulseaudio with pulseaudio -k makes no difference, removing the user pulseaudio config and killing / restarting the server as explained in some troubleshoot guides doesn't make any difference either. The only solution seems to be to restart the computer. This is happening in two different computers recently updated to 20.04 from 19.10 one of them and from 18.04 the other. Alsamixer seems to show the default sound device but pulseaudio can't see it --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: arturo 2106 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC2: arturo 2106 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: arturo 2106 F.... pulseaudio CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-12-10 (510 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3) MachineType: ASUS All Series NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 EFI VGA ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.4.0-28-lowlatency root=UUID=fd387fc2-5401-463f-9307-9d07718ba12d ro "acpi_osi=!Windows 2013" acpi_osi=Linux nogpumanager quiet splash noveau.runpm=0 vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-28.32-lowlatency 5.4.30 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-5.4.0-28-lowlatency N/A linux-backports-modules-5.4.0-28-lowlatency N/A linux-firmware 1.187 Tags: focal Uname: Linux 5.4.0-28-lowlatency x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip libvirt lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 05/28/2019 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 4001 dmi.board.asset.tag: Default string dmi.board.name: X99-M WS/SE dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. dmi.board.version: Rev 1.xx dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Default string dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Default string dmi.chassis.version: Default string dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr4001:bd05/28/2019:svnASUS:pnAllSeries:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:rnX99-MWS/SE:rvrRev1.xx:cvnDefaultstring:ct3:cvrDefaultstring: dmi.product.family: ASUS MB dmi.product.name: All Series dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: ASUS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1876316/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
