Having used Ubuntu 12.04 for several years, I recently purchased a new laptop, an Acer Aspire E1-531, and the screen brightness control doesn't work - with 12.04 or 13.10. When the slider is moved back and forth there is no change - the screen remains on full brightness. Several helpful suggestions to fix this have been provided via Launchpad, but none were successful - hence listing the problem as a bug. My daughter has my previous Dell laptop running 12.04 and the brightness works perfectly. Ditto my Asus netbook. But NOT on my Aspire. Having Googled the problem in search of a solution, I find many people with the same problem with other machines.
