I have the exact same issue with the laptop... Tried the mainline kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc6-trusty/ but the behaviour was the same as with 3.12 : black screen on boot.
Had to revert to 3.13 drm-intel-next and it worked OK except when screen is dimmed the laptop is lost and you need to reboot. Also tried installing nvidia-331 but to no avail, black screen on boot but sortof cycling between on/off. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263015 Title: 8086:0a16 [ASUS Zenbook UX302LG] Black screen on boot Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Install via LiveUSB created with unetbootin off the saucy amd64 iso was able to be completed with "nomodeset". First boot into installed system resulted in lightdm "cowbell" being played but a backlight on / blank screen on the display. using nomodeset on installed system results in framebuffer/console being usable - but no X able to start (cannot find screen). tried some alternative kernel options : acpi_backlight=vendor, video=1920x1080-24@60 but with same results. Tried using different kernel as per bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1195483 . pinned and upgraded to trusty kernel images - slightly different result in that backlight goes down and breifly have a red screen tear in upper left of screen for several seconds before reverting to same behaviour as saucy kernel. (blanked screen, backlit, lightdm cowbell plays). WORKAROUND: Upstream drm-intel-next build resulted in working lightdm/screen: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/2013-12-18-trusty/ -- ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: lightdm 1466 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: lightdm 1466 F.... pulseaudio CRDA: country SG: (2402 - 2482 @ 40), (N/A, 20) (5170 - 5250 @ 40), (N/A, 20) (5250 - 5330 @ 40), (N/A, 20), DFS (5735 - 5835 @ 40), (N/A, 20) DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=808c568f-76fa-46d3-9e60-276860ebe1ec InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-20 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Release amd64 (20131016.1) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 004: ID 03eb:8a03 Atmel Corp.
