Title: kernel panics due to incorrect backport Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This issue results in kernel panics for anyone who uses CephFS. After some digging we suspect this patch to be cause of the kernel panics: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/kernel-ppa/mirror/ubuntu- bionic.git/commit/?id=eb0ba4bdcf12d9c29b9d3318627ad9ff3aff5471 This patch same patch was applied upstream (4.19) and reverted: https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/10/3/862 Quoting: "The backport was incorrect and was causing kernel panics. Revert and re-apply a correct backport from Jeff Layton." Also relevant: https://www.mail-archive.com/ceph-users@lists.ceph.com/msg56549.html Which basically states this patch should not have been applied to 4.15 at all (not intended for pre-5.2) Would be great if you guys could revert the patch. We are stuck on previous kernel versions until this issue is fixed.
