coco77, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc3 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 301840 No drivers available for hpt302n PCI card ** No longer affects: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108906 Title: kernel oops when module hpt366 is loaded Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm not sure if this is a duplicate of Bug #84964 I have 2 PATA disks attached to a PCI Highpoint Rocket 133 ATA controller card. These were previously labeled as hde and hdf under Edgy. The 2.6.20-15 kernel seems unable to find either of the disks attached to this card. After upgrading to Feisty the system would not boot, pausing just after something to do with IDE card module [hpt366] EIP: [<f0833022>] pci_bus_clock_list+0x22/0x30 [hpt366] SS:ESP 0068:df9b9d18 udev-event[xxxx]: run-program: '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit before dropping to the busybox shell ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/-UUID- does not exist Dropping to shell! BusyBox v1.1.3 Built-in shell (ash) /bin/sh can't access tty; job control mode off. At the initramsf prompt modprobe ide-disk modprobe ide-generic don't find the CDROM attached to the motherboard and modprobe hpt366 just hangs the system requiring a reboot. To summarise: fstab has been updated and UUIDs assigned to all partitions. (which match UUIDs obtained running vol_id from Edgy LiveCD) /boot/grub/menu.lst has also been updated with consistent UUIDs. No new sdx entries have been added to /boot/grub/device.map There are no /dev/disk/by-uuid/ nodes (or hdx or sdx) Booting from the Feisty install CD produces the same problem: boot paused at /sbin/modprobe before booting without finding any HDDs. EDIT Adding the lines hpt34x hpt366 to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules causes the boot to get slightly further EIP: [<f0833022>] pci_bus_clock_list+0x22/0x30 [hpt366] SS:ESP 0068:df9b9d18 Segmentation fault before finally stopping at 8139cp: 10/100 PCI Ethernet driver v1.3 (Mar 22, 2004) FDC 0 is a post-1991 82077 and dropping back to the busybox shell. Although I was able to find the CDROM with modprobe-generic.
