If this helps: I have tried many linux dists, mint,kali,debian,fedora and I get the same kernel panic.

In case it's relevant, my partition setup for this Ubuntu installation is the following: 1 - a "/boot" partition (formatted as ext3) 2 - a swap partition 3 - a "/" partition (formatted as ext4), with encrypted home folder.
