I have just been through my old Ubuntu cds and the last kernel I have that boots is 2.6.24-16 generic SMP x86_64. All kernels I have later than this have the above problem. I am currently on 2.6.32-22-generic SMP x86_64 I used rootdelay and all_generic_ide to get some later kernels to boot but recently even this does not work. I bought new hard disks as I thought this may be a motherboard hard disk incompatibility but I still have the problem. I have found that if I boot windows first, current kernels boot every time without any special options, so it looks like something is not getting set in the motherboard by later kernels that windows is setting I have also tried 2.6.34-020634-generic SMP x86_64 and it also fails to boot unless I first boot into windows ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.36 Regression: Yes Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.36-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21.
