  DW5821e doesn't work in Bionic.

  Three commits are required to support it. All of them are already in the 
mainline kernel.

  With the command
  $ sudo mmcli -L
  the device should be listed as a modem.

  == Risk of Regression ==
  Very low. it only adds the device ID to the right driver.
