Christopher, The hangs described in this bug report have been fixed for me. It was, it seems, a RAM hardware issue which my computer store was refusing to aknowledge and blaming Linux for it.
I did however update the BIOS as you suggested, and it seems there are no more ACPI kernel errors as I only get these warnings now, Nov 16 22:42:15 b12 kernel: [ 2.626931] ACPI Warning: 0x0000000000000530-0x000000000000053f SystemIO conflicts with Region \GPR2 1 (20121018/utaddress-251) Nov 16 22:42:15 b12 kernel: [ 2.626937] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver Nov 16 22:42:15 b12 kernel: [ 2.626939] ACPI Warning: 0x0000000000000500-0x000000000000052f SystemIO conflicts with Region \GPR2 1 (20121018/utaddress-251) Nov 16 22:42:15 b12 kernel: [ 2.626943] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use it instead of the native driver Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967907 Title: ACPI Error: Method parse/execution Status in The Linux Kernel: Fix Released Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Mar 27 18:52:52 b12 kernel: [ 1.428600] ACPI Error: [\TST0] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20110413/psargs-359) Mar 27 18:52:52 b12 kernel: [ 1.428604] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.SCK0.CP07._TPC] (Node ffff88042712d140), AE_NOT_FOUND (20110413/psparse-536) I've experienced many random hangs of the system and tried to fix many things sine I installed Ubuntu on my new 12-threads, 6-cores machine... I updated the bios I tried different video drivers I tried different kernels Seems (not 100% sure) that using acpi=off solves the problem, but I end up with only 6 threads, which is not desired! Seems that with my current kernel it doesn't freeze anymore (not 100% sure yet)... FInally, the ACPI errors seen in my attached kern.log are alway present with all the kernels I tried! Hopefully my info will help solve this issue. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
