I think I am experiencing the same issue. Upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 failed. Startup does not complete and screen sequences through: blank, startup console output and corrupt/uninitialised screen with lots of colours. Log in almost impossible on other console as screen switches back. Managed to log in via ssh from a laptop and captured first 1000 lines of output from dmesg - see attached. >From ssh login on 8th July managed to upgrade all packages but problem >persists.
