Thank you too for following up the reports here.

Sadly I currently have no access to the system, it was my friend's
laptop.

I think it is not yet merged since he said after a kernel update two
days ago (proposed by the Software Updater), the touchpad stopped
working and he had to install the manually built kernel again using
dpkg.

Bug description:
  For a fresh installed Ubuntu 16 (and 18), touchpad doesn't work for
  Elantech ELAN0618.

  We have modified the struct elan_acpi_id, by adding ELAN0618 to the
  list of the supported models (in the file
  drivers/input/mouse/elan_i2c_core.c from the kernel source)

  static const struct acpi_device_id elan_acpi_id[] = {
        { "ELAN0000", 0 },
        { "ELAN0100", 0 },
        { "ELAN0600", 0 },
        { "ELAN0602", 0 },
        { "ELAN0605", 0 },
        { "ELAN0608", 0 },
        { "ELAN0605", 0 },
        { "ELAN0609", 0 },
        { "ELAN060B", 0 },
        { "ELAN060C", 0 },
        { "ELAN0611", 0 },
        { "ELAN0618", 0 },
        { "ELAN1000", 0 },
        { }
  };

  and then built the kernel, and our problem solved.
