I experienced this as well on my K55N. Saturday night I left the laptop suspended and discovered that the battery was dead by Sunday afternoon. After plugging in and rebooting, the trackpad didn't work and was not recognized. I shut down and restarted several times throughout the day on Sunday. Sunday night I decided to play a game, so I restarted the pc and booted into Windows 8.1. The trackpad worked fine in Windows and continued to function in Ubuntu after shutting down Windows and restarting. Trackpad is still working fine in Ubuntu today after shut down over night and boot today. Weird.
Same laptop, Asus K55N with AMD A8. Ubuntu 13.10 with fglrx installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1244716 Title: Trackpad not detected; Asus K55N (AMD) Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Following upgrade to 13.10 my trackpad was working fine, but I had been having suspend issues. Apparently, last time I closed the lid on the laptop, it didn't suspend, as when I retrieved it today, it was dead. After starting the computer, the trackpad was no longer working. I do not think that this was following a kernel upgrade, but the page at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection suggested that non-detection is a kernel issue. I don't really know much about kernel bug reporting, so forgive me if I'm doing anything wrong. :) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: linux-image-3.11.0-12-generic 3.11.0-12.19 [modified: boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-12-generic] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: jeremy 1933 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: jeremy 1933 F.... pulseaudio Date: Fri Oct 25 09:10:26 2013 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=5249f486-fcac-4cc6-9289-34125a4b4f1f InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-21 (4 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Release amd64 (20131016.1) MachineType: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.
