Lasse Ebdrup Pedersen, as per http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/optiplex-9010 an update is available for your BIOS (A16). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1233110 Title: Black screen with blinking cursor and moveable mouse cursor after latest kernel upgrade Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I updated ubuntu sep 30. Among other updates was kernel 3.8.0-31.46 After updating and rebooting I get grub, select ubuntu as always, then instead of going to the unity-greeter login screen I just get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left and a mouse cursor i can move around. If I press CTRL-ALT-F1 and login i can write “sudo service lightdm --full-restart" and then I get login screen and everything is normal. If I use the previous kernel 3.8.0-30 everything works like normal.
