Title:
  update-initramfs hangs

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a server running version 16.04.1 LTS and kernel 4.4.0-62-generic
I ran apt-get upgrade and the upgrade process hangs on...
  update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-83-generic

  In a separate shell I have tried update-initramfs -u -v and the
process stops on "Calling hook cryptroot"

In my /boot/ directory I now have a file
initrd.img-4.4.0-83-generic.new which is 0Kb in size.

I do not have any encrypted volumes.

Please can you suggest how I can get round this error and complete the
  upgrade.

  Many thanks
  Max
