apport information ** Description changed:
I got a portable drive bay 2000 in hopes of using it as an external DVD/Zip/LS120 drive through USB, but it appears that Ubuntu can't recognized the drive. With a laptop it works fine through the PCMCIA card, but the USB connection does not work. Through USB it uses a ScanLogic Corp. SL11R-IDE IDE Bridge which is likely the issue, but I've heard that it works fine with CD drives and other removable storage as opposed to multi-partition hard disks. The USB connection works through a Windows VM (Vista and 7) and my Thinkpad is even able to boot from it. I even tried recompiling the kernel as suggested at: http://askubuntu.com/questions/184076/why- doesnt-the-scanlogic-sl11r-ide-usb-to-ata-adapter-work The change does not seem to fix the issue.
