The problem also happens when uzing zpool attach to attach a drive to a single disk pool to create a mirror when using /dev/disk/by-id labels. $ sudo zpool attach storage ata-WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4NPDEFNLP ata-WDC_WD30EFRX-68AX9N0_WD-WCC1T0879632 cannot attach ata-WDC_WD30EFRX-68AX9N0_WD-WCC1T0879632 to ata-WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4NPDEFNLP: no such pool or dataset Using /dev/sdx labels works as a workaround.
