No, the system was new and I installed a fresh copy of lubuntu 16.10 (as ubuntu was too slow - used live boot). I tried different versions of ubuntu and fedora but all had the same problem.
As you instructed I installed the new upstream kernals but the bug still persists. Latest upstream version installed : http://paste.ubuntu.com/23949276/ I suggest this must be given some high importance as it will eventually cause permanent HDD failure.(Force shut down is the only option now). ***There is no legacy boot on this laptop and only UEFI booting is the only option. So installed the OS from live boot and installed GRUB file separately. USB 3.0 option is also not present in BIOS. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1662078 Title: System halts during shut down and hibernate Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The system completely halts while trying to shut down or hibernate.
