Public bug reported: After upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04, the screen will stay black after GRUB (backlight is on) when booting with the new 4.4 kernel (linux-image-4.4.0-57-generic). Booting with the old 3.14 kernel will make the screen work again.
This is on a BIOSTAR A780L mainboard, with the monitor connected via DVI. "ubuntu-bug linux" tells me that I appear to run a mainline kernel and cannot report anything (obviously, as the screen doesn't work if I boot the 16.04 kernel). $ cat /proc/version_signature > version.log cat: /proc/version_signature: No such file or directory 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release: 16.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center $ apt-cache policy linux-image-4.4.0-57-generic linux-image-4.4.0-57-generic: Installed: 4.4.0-57.78 Candidate: 4.4.0-57.78 Version table: *** 4.4.0-57.78 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What you expected to happen Screen doesn't stay black 4) What happened instead Screen stays black ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "lspci-vnvn.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651910/+attachment/4794998/+files/lspci-vnvn.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651910 Title: radeon: black screen after upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 on RS780 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: After upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04, the screen will stay black after GRUB (backlight is on) when booting with the new 4.4 kernel (linux-image-4.4.0-57-generic).
