I was upgrading from Lubuntu 16.4 to 16.10 Through the software updater.
This error occurred during the upgrade.  Two related messages were
displayed:

Unable to create new file '/var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-
extra-4.8.0-26-generic.list-new'. operation not permitted
