So this bug is now about that the fact that the 4.8.0-8.9 kernel from ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa has lost the option CONFIG_TOUCHSCREEN_ELAN in Ubuntu ("not set"), which is a regression from 4.4 kernels where it was still enabled as a module. Remains unset in 4.8.0-12.13. Please enable it again, since in 4.8 the touchscreen functionality would work pretty well, unlike in 4.4.
