This is fairly typical - driver authors add support for newer firmware before it is released to upstream linux-firmware. Sometimes (especially with iwlwifi) that firmware is never officially released, but the driver just complains and falls back to an older version.
There are a handful of updates upstream that we don't have yet in yakkety, but nothing that would address these issues. So unless you're seeing actual hardware that doesn't work because of missing firmware we should just close this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625508 Title: [Yakkety 4.8] firmware related issues Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Seeing the below on generating initramfs with 4.8: update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.8.0-11-lowlatency W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/kbl_guc_ver9_14.bin for module i915 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/bxt_guc_ver8_7.bin for module i915 Seeing this on boot: [ 7.688626] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-24.ucode failed with error -2 [ 7.688638] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-23.ucode failed with error -2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1625508/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
