In the networking tray drop-down I can see one single wifi network listed (out of the many within range), and it can't reconnect to my network. I clear it with the hammer of: sudo rmmod iwldvm && sudo modprobe iwldvm I'm not sure what would be more appropriate, but that works. Then my laptop auto-connects to the right network, as expected. Turning on/off the hardware wireless switch on the thinkpad does not clear the problem.
