Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.7 kernel[0]. It doesn't work when i close lid. In settings i set suspension as a action for this event, but id does not work. Screen goes black, but it is not even locked to secure my laptop. After opening lid screen starts to work, but no password is needed. I'm using 16.04 LTS Ubuntu.
