I don't know where you got this version of apport,
2.14.4-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.04.1~c42.ppa1, but it is not the one from the
Ubuntu archive. Please install the version of apport from the archive
and see if you still encounter the issue.

If you'll notice bug #1499842 ends in make-report-path.
this bug ends in make-report-file seems dkms is confused between report and
file.
Is either reporting or filing attempt two silmilar things at once crashing?
