Joerg Albert, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops- and-netbooks/ThinkPad-T-Series- laptops/ThinkPad-T520?tabName=Downloads&linkTrack=Mast:SubNav:Support:Drivers%20and%20Software|Drivers%20and%20Software&beta=false an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (1.45). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.45 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1583750 Title: 8086:1502 e1000e driver failed with error -3 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I switch on my laptop, running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS amd64, it will boot and load e1000e, but no eth* interface is present. Even repeated rmmod and modprobe don't bring up the interface. After a restart (i.e. no fresh power-up) it works just fine. After the next power-cycle the problem is there again. Laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T520 (Optimus graphics). joerg@x61:~$ sudo dmesg | grep e1000e [ 1.622695] e1000e: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver - 2.3.2-k [ 1.622697] e1000e: Copyright(c) 1999 - 2013 Intel Corporation.
