Thank you for following up. I have now installed and booted with 4.6-rc-wily, and the result is that it freezes at the desktop password prompt.
It reaches the desktop password prompt with the cursor blinking in the input field, but does not accept keystrokes. The wifi connects, popping up a message. Soon after the password input field freezes. At no point could I switch to a tty or type anything. The only functioning key is the power button, which shows the pre-shutdown dialog to choose reboot, shudown or sleep, but the mouse is not working either. This is exactly the same situation as with kernel 4.4.0-21, as reported at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1578621 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575197 Title: Enabling "Using processor microcode firmware for Intel CPUs" in "Additional Drivers" breaks sleep-resume Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Disabling it (was disabled by default) enables this MacBook Pro 11,1 laptop to suspend and resume normally.
