I'm having the same issue, but native to Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 (kernel 4.2.0) on Dell Precision 7510 with Broadcom 5880. Card reads successfully from SCRx31 USB reader. Card also works on kernel 3.13.0 (different Dell computer) with same Broadcom 5880 reader.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am running vmware, hosting a Windows 10 guest, relaying USB smartcard reader and see a flood of following warnings in dmesg: "xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: WARN Event TRB for slot 1 ep 8 with no TDs queued?" I only presume they are related to vmware/usb smartcard reader, I can't be sure.
