Since USB functionality is out of action and the LAN drivers also fail, will the command be of any use?

Changing EFI values in BIOS has no effect - system performs nominally within Win8.1. DVD boots (EFI and legacy load) the live system where no USB devices are recognized. (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system Last but not least Ubuntu Studio cant be installed due to other bugs (LAN failure and EFI grub installation abort).
