D Fine, at your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may: 1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there. 2) Backup, or clone the primary install. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is the release candidate number if it exists. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1527740 Title: Touchpad intermittently stops working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Touchpad intermittently stops working on lenovo carbon x1 (gen1) If I close the lid, or sometimes disable and then re-enable touchpad in BIOS, it may sometimes come back. Sometimes running the software updater seems to fix or break it, but this may be incidental also perhaps incidental, im using virtualbox alot, and thats really the only thing new in my workflow. when it doesn't work, xinput list sometimes does not show the device. Once it shows, i can see properties in system settings -> mouse and touchpad', but that doesn't necessarily mean the touchpad is going to come alive. If it does start to work, it often works across several reboots. i've attached some additional files in a tarball: -- beforeaAndAfterLidClose -- this was a run of cat /proc/bus/input/devices before and after closing lid ... note that after closing and reopening, the TouchPad shows up. -- dmesg -- devices: a full '/cat/proc/bus/devices', obtained after the touchpad reappeared, which will show the vendor information -- Xorg.0.log define@x1:~/Desktop/touchPad$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Release: 14.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-74-generic 3.13.0-74.118 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-74.118-generic 3.13.11-ckt30 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-74-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.19 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: define 2741 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Dec 18 14:32:53 2015 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=298e288a-808a-477a-b4b6-3905d0819c47 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-12 (432 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: LENOVO 34606V9 ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.13.0-74-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.13.0-74-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.13.0-74-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.127.19 SourcePackage: linux UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 04/29/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: G6ET96WW (2.56 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 34606V9 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: 0B98401 Pro dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrG6ET96WW(2.56):bd04/29/2013:svnLENOVO:pn34606V9:pvrThinkPadX1Carbon:rvnLENOVO:rn34606V9:rvr0B98401Pro:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 34606V9 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Carbon dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1527740/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
