Public bug reported: I experience very frequent wireless network deconnections on my laptop. A typical case is when I close the screen : when I open it again, the network is systematically gone. Sometimes it's just that the wifi options won't show up in NetworkManager dropdown menu, but on other occasions the menu says that the wifi has been turned off with a hardware switch (there is no such switch on the laptop).
Syslog shows crashes related to iwlwifi (search for "Trace" in the attached file). Sorry for the poor report, but I don't have much time to narrow down the issue. Of course I can add whichever information is needed. fang@MiniFang:~$ LANG=en_US lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Release: 14.04 fang@MiniFang:~$ LANG=en_US apt-cache policy linux-firmware linux-firmware: Installed: 1.127.19 Candidate: 1.127.19 Version table: *** 1.127.19 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.127.18 0 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-security/main amd64 Packages 1.127 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages fang@MiniFang:~$ sudo LANG=en_US lshw -C network *-network description: Wireless interface product: Wireless 7260 vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0 logical name: wlan0 version: c3 serial: 48:51:b7:e1:26:b6 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwlwifi driverversion=3.19.0-42-generic firmware=25.17.12.0 ip=192.168.0.12 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn resources: irq:52 memory:f7100000-f7101fff *-network description: Ethernet interface product: RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. physical id: 0.1 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.1 logical name: eth0 version: 12 serial: 80:fa:5b:14:57:4b size: 10Mbit/s capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix vpd bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3LK-NAPI duplex=half firmware=rtl8411-2_0.0.1 07/08/13 latency=0 link=no multicast=yes port=MII speed=10Mbit/s resources: irq:48 ioport:e000(size=256) memory:f7014000-f7014fff memory:f7010000-f7013fff ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-firmware 1.127.19 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-42.48~14.04.1-generic 3.19.8-ckt10 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-42-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.19 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Dec 27 18:30:50 2015 Dependencies: InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-08-20 (128 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Beta amd64 (20150805) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: linux-firmware UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty ** Attachment added: "/var/log/syslog" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1529497/+attachment/4540991/+files/syslog -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux-firmware in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1529497 Title: Frequent iwlwifi crashes Status in linux-firmware package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I experience very frequent wireless network deconnections on my laptop.
