Checking dmesg shows "b43legacy-phy0 ERROR: PHY transmission error" often dozens or hundreds of times. These failures don't seem to be caused by any particular activity, and aren't even triggered by heavy network usage. The errors can begin when the network is almost idle or when it's under light or heavy usage. Once the errors appear, wireless networking either freezes for a few seconds to a few minutes, or alternately completely fails.
