Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:
sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to Invalid. Thanks in advance! ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Tags added: fsys-tarfile-error -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1086894 Title: package linux-image-2.6.32-45-generic 2.6.32-45.99 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile returned error exit status 2 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: System appeared functional this morning when I turned it on. Noticed the e-mail to browser linker did not function. Rebooted and noticed the log-on screen was not what I expected (i.e. did not request p/w). several reboots did not repair. Entered Terminal Mode and did apt-get update, noted several needed updates. then Apt-get upgrade, ended with error 1. Rebooted. received Crash report notice "Linux- image-2.6.32-45-generic 2.6.32-45.100 failed to install/upgrade". Currently system is functional with some frustrating exceptions. Also note that none of the GUI update tools work, i.e. updater manager etc.. contact me if more information is needed. This may be ( I am considering it so) security issue! Mike.
