Dear Mr. Salisbury, True problem I'm having: Kubuntu default install makes the /boot partition TOO SMALL. My Kubuntu /boot partition is only 243MiB. This was the default Kubuntu install. The /boot partition is too small. Now, the Kubuntu "Software Updater" demands 403M free space. Below is quoted from an email I sent to another about the problem:
BEGIN QUOTE "2) Ran Software Updater; Selected "Partial Update" as a message indicated a full update wouldn't work because of partial install problem; Received error message demanding 403 M of free space on the disk /boot: "Not enough free disk space" "The upgrade has aborted. The upgrade needs a total of 403 M free space on disk '/boot'. Please free at least an additional 337 M of disk space on '/boot'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'." The Partial updater wants "403 M" free space in /Boot. Is that 403 MB? The root /boot folder is only a folder of 3.1kB, but it contains files of 12.6kB, etc. ??? Question: what does 403 M mean? 403,000 ??? _______ 3) Launched KDE Partition Manager: requires pwrd: It states that the Partition= /dev/sda1/, Type= ext2, Mount Point= /boot, Size= 243.00 MiB, Used= 159.64 MiB, Flags= boot therefore has free space of (243.00 - 159.64) = 83.36 MiB. If per the error message, we add 337 M = 420.36 MiB ??? _______ 4) In other words, the /boot partition at 243.00 MiB is too small for updates even if empty??? END QUOTE Thank you very much.
