clark, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://us.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.23). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.23 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1498239 Title: "panic occured, switching back to text console" Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: freezes after that line ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-64-generic 3.13.0-64.104 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-64.104-generic 3.13.11-ckt26 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-64-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.13 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: clark 1528 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon Sep 21 18:47:34 2015 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=7eec172a-ee3d-4384-a08b-11e3bf442395 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-11-13 (312 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release i386 (20140722.2) Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp.
