Using various options finally get: firewire_ohci: Failed to set link Power Status So, using all the options, both at the same time, individually and a combination thereof: blacklist=firewire_ohci (gets past the black screen at leaast, but hangs on ubuntu loading screen) nofirewire (no change) rd.driver.blacklist-firewire_ohci (no change) modprobe.blacklist=firewire_ohci (no change) This is the same as the bugs reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/981936 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1000197 I am unable to provide any further information or 'report from a console' or anything because I can't even install Ubuntu.
