Ok, I've managed to track this down to bios setting regarding "keep feeding electrivity to usb ports while in sleep". So apparently this is some quirk related to failed efi firmware or acpi tables for asus ux31a laptop.

After that (even if it was unmounted and removed) it becomes impossible: the system goes to suspend briefly (for bout 1 second) but immediately wakes up for no apparent reason. I suspect there's some weird bug in xfce power management - is there a way to disable it alltogether and rely on systemd directly instead? --- ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 EcryptfsInUse: Yes Package: linux (not installed) Tags: vivid Uname: Linux 4.1.0-040100rc6-generic x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse kismet libvirtd lpadmin netdev plugdev sambashare scanner sudo tape video wireshark _MarkForUpload: True --- ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 EcryptfsInUse: Yes Package: linux (not installed) Tags: vivid Uname: Linux 4.1.0-040100rc6-generic x86_64 UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse kismet libvirtd lpadmin netdev plugdev sambashare scanner sudo tape video wireshark _MarkForUpload: True To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1454253/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
