Christopher, I don't need a backport. This seems resolved in 15.04 and there is a workaround in earlier versions, so I am satisfied with this. You may close this as invalid. If this crops again in future versions, should I post a comment here or open a new issue?
Thank you for your assistance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to bcmwl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313221 Title: 14e4:4320 "Install third party software" during install installs wl for BCM4306 when it's not supported Status in bcmwl package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I was installing Xubuntu 14.04. It said 'Configuring bcmwl-kernel- source amd64)' and in the details "DKMS: install completed." and it just froze there. To continue installation I had to open up a terminal and execute 'sudo killall -9 modprobe' due to the wl module being installed when it doesn't support my 4306 card. I had to add it to the module blacklist. WORKAROUND: During the installation, do not select "Install third party software". lspci -vvnn | grep -A 9 Network 06:02.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller [14e4:4320] (rev 03) Subsystem: Linksys WMP54GS v1.0 802.11g Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster [1737:0015] Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx- Latency: 32 Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 18 Region 0: Memory at f8100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K] Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1313221/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
