I power on my machine (a new HP Pavilion All-In-One) and I see the boot choice screen, with Ubuntu as the default choice. If I take that choice, the screen goes dark for ten seconds or so, then turns a series of solid colors (all white, all red, all green, etc.) After that it turns dark and becomes unresponsive. The behavior is consistent. I can get past the problem by selecting the last boot choice (System Settings or something like that), which brings me to an HP choice screen where I can select Ubuntu. This time I get to the initial bootup screen (Ubuntu, etc.) but in a higher-resolution mode than the first one. This time the Ubuntu choice works properly. A possibly related problem is that when I suspend my (correctly running) system and then try to resume it, the screen looks correct but the keyboard and mouse are dead.
