Really? This is a very small laptop with no CD drive, it also has a small SSD, so it does not have windows. I tried making a windows rescue USB drive, but it doesn't do anything because there is no windows on the drive, and on top it wiped the GRUB bootblock. The only way for me to upgrade the BIOS would be to install windows, update the BIOS, then re- install ubuntu. Do you really want me to do all this, while the benefit is quite questionable for this problem?

I've had nothing but trouble with it (and from reading forums, I'm not alone). I file this bug to help fix issues. My findings with recent kernels: laptop has Ubuntu Vivid installed, which comes with the 3.18 kernel and 23.11.10 firmware. With the -10 firmware, often the wifi doesn't even associate with the access point, while all other devices in the house can. When it does connect, the speed is fast for about 1 second (around 10 MB/s), en then drops to 20-60 kbps, or loses connection altogether. With self-compiled 3.19-rc6 (with latest iwlwifi-fixes merged) it's the same. I tried the 23.12.10 firmware, but it is the same. When I switch to the 25.228.9 firmware, it is much better, however, speed still drops every now and then, but much less than with the -10 firmware. Kernel version doesn't seem to matter much, firmware version seems to drive all variability. This problem is for both bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. I can provide all debugging info you request. I will provide the minimum logging tonight when I get home. --- ApportVersion: 2.15.1-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: jos 2160 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: jos 2160 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: MATE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=29ac20b8-1469-4865-b42a-9c1e67ce0d81 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-01-27 (7 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu MATE 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Alpha2 amd64 (20150123) MachineType: Sony Corporation SVP1121D4E Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.18.0-12-generic.efi.signed root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.18.0-12.13-generic 3.18.4 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.18.0-12-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.18.0-12-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.141 Tags: vivid Uname: Linux 3.18.0-12-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin netdev plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 11/05/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: R1041V7 dmi.board.asset.tag: N/A dmi.board.name: VAIO dmi.board.vendor: Sony Corporation dmi.board.version: N/A dmi.chassis.asset.tag: N/A dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Sony Corporation dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrR1041V7:bd11/05/2013:svnSonyCorporation:pnSVP1121D4E:pvrC60C907J:rvnSonyCorporation:rnVAIO:rvrN/A:cvnSonyCorporation:ct10:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: SVP1121D4E dmi.product.version: C60C907J dmi.sys.vendor: Sony Corporation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1417552/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
